i) VASER Liposuction
ii) Tummy Tuck Surgery (Abdominoplasty)
VASER Liposuction is a non-invasive and more precise form of liposuction. Using ultrasound technology, fat deposits in the body are targeted & broken down with increased accuracy and gentleness. This reduces the risk of harm to surrounding cells and helps patients feel more comfortable and assured in the procedure.
How Is the Procedure Done?
Much like most cosmetic surgeries, the first step towards VASER Liposuction involves a private consultation and assessment with your surgeon. This helps your surgeon determine the location of your liposuction, go over risks & specifics, and carefully customize the procedure to reflect your desired shape & weight.
Once done with the consultation, the VASER Liposuction procedure will then proceed as follows:
- Numbing fluid is injected into the fatty layer to reduce blood loss.
- Small ultrasound probes are inserted into the site of liposuction via small incisions, from which high-frequency ultrasound waves are emitted. This gently and effectively breaks up fat cells for safe removal.
- The loosened fat is then gently suctioned out of the area, followed by removal of the probes. The incisions are then sutured closed.
Tummy tuck surgery, also known as abdominoplasty, is a surgery meant to improve the shape & tone of the abdomen. This is usually done by tightening abdominal tissue and removing excess fat & skin, which creates a smoother, more defined look to the stomach. A tummy tuck is generally considered to be more intensive than liposuction.
How Is the Procedure Done?
After consulting with your surgeon for a personalized treatment plan, the tummy tuck procedure will usually proceed as follows:
- General anesthesia or sedation is administered.
- A horizontal U-shaped incision is made along the skin between the belly button and public hair. The size and shape of the incision (and the subsequent scar) will vary depending on the amount of excess skin removed.
- The abdominal skin is lifted along the incision to access the underlying fat & muscle.
- Excess fat is removed from the abdomen and the muscles reshaped accordingly. Connective abdominal tissue may also be tightened using permanent sutures.
- The lifted skin is pulled back over the exposed abdomen and any excess skin trimmed off. The incision is then sutured neatly closed.

Liposuction & tummy tucks are both used to remove excess fat from the body, but still differ in important specifics. A patient debating between the two should therefore carefully consider what they want from the surgery, as well as if they’re a suitable candidate for either.

What Should I Consider Before Choosing
Body Contour Surgeries?
ARE THE RESULTS PERMANENT?
- The results of liposuction and tummy tucks can be permanent as long as the patient continues doing exercise and eating a healthy, balanced diet.
DOES LIPOSUCTION/TUMMY TUCKS HURT?
- For liposuctions, you may experience mild pain after surgery that eventually fades over time. For tummy tucks, post-surgery pain & swelling may last upwards of a week, though will eventually heal.
WHAT AREAS CAN BE OPERATED ON FOR LIPOSUCTION?
- Liposuction can be done on the stomach, waist, thighs, face, arms, buttocks, and most other places on the body. To guarantee a particular area is viable for liposuction, you may check with your surgeon.
WHICH IS MORE EFFECTIVE?
- This might depend on what you want out of the surgery. Generally however, being the more intensive surgery, tummy tucks are more effective at removing excess skin and tightening abdominal muscles than liposuction, which only addresses excess fat.
