Breast Reduction
Breast Reduction
A surgical procedure that reduces the size, volume, & weight of oversized breasts.
Overly large breasts can be a source of discomfort, inconvenience, and embarrassment for many people who have them. At NICANOR, we provide patients with state-of-the-art, customized breast reduction options performed by experienced surgeons, and help them finally feel happy & comfortable in their bodies.
Should I Choose Breast Reduction?
Breast reduction surgeries can be beneficial for any patient struggling with the weight, size, and sag of overly large breasts. This can not only cause physical discomforts, such as back, neck, and shoulder pain, but also get in the way of physical activities necessary to day-to-day life, such as sleeping or exercising.
Breast reduction surgery is a relatively simple procedure that can ease most of these struggles, and balance the size & look of your breasts for a more comfortable, enhanced figure.
Signs that you may benefit from breast reduction surgery include:
Case 1
Struggling with back, shoulder, neck, or other bodily pains as a direct result of overly large breasts
Case 2
Suffering from irritation and rashes around the skin under the breasts due to the size & sag of your breasts
Case 3
Having large breasts that interfere with physical activities
Case 4
Having large breasts that cause you embarrassment, shame, or self-image issues
How Is the Procedure Done?
Before the Surgery
To prepare for the surgery, your surgeon will arrange a private consultation to check your medical history and go over important points of the procedure. This could include an examination of your breasts and current health, discussing what size & appearance you want your breasts to look, and disclosing any possible risks of the surgery. In certain cases, a mammogram may also be performed.
Customizing the Surgery
Once done with consultation, your surgeon will then carefully consider & tailor the treatment options according to your needs, and ensure the best results at minimal risk.
Breast reduction surgery is most commonly available via two surgical treatments:
Incisional or Liposuction.
Incisional breast reduction involves the removal of fat, skin, and breast tissue via a created incision, allowing for a larger decrease in breast size.
- For this procedure, an incision is usually created around the nipple & areola down each breast. Fat, skin, and breast tissue is then removed via the incision to the desired end size.
- Once removed, the surgeon will skilfully reshape the breast and reposition the nipple & areola. In the case of large changes in breast size, the nipple may be removed entirely, and then re-set at a later stage.
- The incisions are then sutured closed and the breasts carefully bandaged
Liposuction is a less invasive surgery option that involves removing fat from the breast, allowing for a reduced breast size without removing skin or breast tissue.
- Liposuction breast reduction surgeries generally proceed the same as liposuction to any other part of the body.
- For this procedure, thin tubes (cannulas) are inserted into your breast via small incisions, and used to break up fatty deposits within the breast.
- Once broken down, the fat is then suctioned out of the breast and removed, leading to a decrease in breast size.

What Should I Consider Before Choosing
Breast Reduction?
SHOULD I CHOOSE LIPOSUCTION FOR MY BREAST REDUCTION?
- Though less invasive, liposuction may not be ideal for large reductions in breast size. This is because liposuction only removes the fat from the breast, and does not account for the breast tissue that comprises the majority of breast size or volume. Removing fat without addressing the excess skin may also result in sagging breasts.
WILL MEDICAL INSURANCE COVER THIS SURGERY?
- For any cosmetic surgeries, it is recommended to check with your insurance agent first to be sure. However, insurance should cover functional breast reduction surgeries that are performed to alleviate medical problems caused by overly large breasts.
HOW MUCH VOLUME CAN I REDUCE?
- Patients can choose to reduce their breast volume however much they want. Our surgeons will carefully consult with you before the surgery to understand your desired final size, and apply that to the procedure.
WILL I HAVE SCARS?
- Unfortunately, breast reduction surgery will often leave visible scars, though they may gradually fade somewhat over time.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE ME TO RECOVER?
- Patients usually take at least 1 week to recover from surgery.
